Painting with Body Parts

Unusual ways to Create Art
Remember the best part of kindergarten is when you got to finger paint? It seemed to be the only chance a child had to get messy and not get into trouble. The paint was squeezed out of a large tube, onto the glossy paper and you just pushed your hands and fingers through it .
Using the index finger to paint a picture of a flower, a dog and a tree next to a house were my favorites. But occasional I just wanted to feel the paint on my fingers and create something abstract and beautiful.
That brings to to the point of this article. There are artists that do not use their hands to paint their creations. There are those who like to use other body parts to create art. No, I'm not talking about painting on the body, or tattooing, but using parts such as the breasts, buttocks, genitals, feet, eyeballs and tongue to create.
Have you ever used your tongue to paint? Here's an artist that does that.
Unusual Artists
Here are a few of the artists that actually use body parts, other than their hands, to create beautiful art.
Christopher Kuster paints by holding a brush end in his teeth. I guess he is another mouth artist.
He used his teeth because he is a quadriplegic from an accident so he isn't trying to be different. His water colors are beautiful and can be found on Facebook.
Steve Murmer, an art teacher from Virgina, sits in paint then strategically sits on the canvas, carefully placing his "cheeks" to create his masterpiece. Sometimes he includes his genitals in the creation. The school district didn't think his style was appropriate for teaching so he was let go. He never painted this way in front of the students and eventually won a judgment with the local ACLU's help.He is listed on the links.
Another artist, Xiang Chen, places an acrylic eyeball cover attached to the end of his brush to paint with. he claims that it doesn't hurt at all and he's done this most of his life.
An Australian, uses one specific piece of his anatomy to create with. Tim Patch ,nicknamed "Pricasso", use his "member" to paint his portraits.
An Indian artist, Ani K uses his tongue to create his portraits. it takes about 3-4 days to finish one. His work is amazing.
Di Peel, another Australian, spreads the paint on the canvas and dips her ample bosom into it. She then imprints her painted breasts onto a waiting canvas to create her art. She sells her paintings on her own website listed on the links.
Breasts painting
Here is a mini lesson in creating art with your breasts.
Materials needed:
- (10) 16 oz tubes acrylic paint or finger paint of various colors
- large 18" x 24" drawing pad or finger paint paper
- large painting canvas 16" x 21" or larger
- large table or flat surface to hold weight of your body
Directions for breast painting.
- lay out large finger paint paper on table
- gather paint tubes you plan to use and squeeze out about 1/3 of the paint onto paper
- some like to apply directly to breasts as they paint
- disrobe completely in the privacy of studio or home. Paint can get onto other clothes
- Press down onto paints and swirl around to create different effects
- continue painting until you are happy with the results
- start another painting with different paint colors
- wash off paint and let painting dry
- You may want to mat and frame the painting after drying

Tips about painting with body parts
This makes a nice gift to a loved one or to sell in an art gallery
Be sure to offer it to art galleries or art shows for contemporary tastes. Tell the owners ahead of time what you use to create your work. Up and coming galleries in the largest cities will be the best places to show your work.
Make sure the paint is non toxic. Some people use their tongue to paint, so there's a chance the non toxic paints could filter through your skin, as well.

Summary
I think artists have always been the innovators and pushed the envelop in what is acceptable in society.
Some people may see these artist as being "gimmicky" or seeking attention.
I guess most of them are but it's difficult for artists to get attention to their art so this seems to work.
There was a time when people thought Leonardo Di Vinci was unusual! Later Vincent van Gogh. Picasso, Dali, or Cezanne were misunderstood until years later.
Being creative will sometimes scare others and label an artist as weird or crazy. Yes, some probably are but they are creative and crazy geniuses. They probably get to do what a lot of us want to do.

Whoever said "Art has no boundaries", painting using body parts is probably one of the things that made them say it. Using fingers and hands wouldn't be that surprising, but using genitals and other not-so-public body parts to paint is like pushing the boundaries of acceptance and traditionally accepted norms. But then again, pushing the boundaries is what art is all about, isn't it?
I agree with your comment that not all art forms will be liked by everyone. I too am not sure if I would endorse this art form, but this hub definitely made for a unique and interesting read. Sharing it with friends.

Have you heard of Joni Erikson Tada? She's a parapalegic (sp) who also uses her mouth to hold her paintbrush. I also love to look at sidewalk art. Thanks, this was fun.
Very good advice on painting, I never though of it like this
Being a child of the 70's, I loved this hub! What a hoot.... and many memories! Thumbs up, Stacie L ....(love the picture of the cat... I have 3)
I am also an artist, and sometimes I think it would be great to use something other than my hands, but I am grateful I still have them to use. I admire those with handicaps that can express themselves this way. Not sure about the breast thing though - Maybe she gets more out of it than just expression. (oops)
lol...as an artist I can appreciate this SO much! Great topic and I'm off to check those links out (and for the record I've never used anything except my hands to create art but I once did a painting using my parrots feet. I dipped them in non-toxic paint them let him go at it!!)
Thumbs up, bookmarked, tweeted and liked on Facebook!
And congrats again on your 2 year HUB anniversary!

And to think, I pioneered this (using an assistant's breasts) for a high school art project in 1968 ...
I can understand the quadriplegic and i don't think he should even be mentioned in this group. He is a true artist, and the others seem desperate for attention, Professional artist grade oils and watercolors even pastels have differing levels of toxicity hence the warning labels on them, they are not good for the skin. And if it is not artist grade paint you work with, You can never hope to enter the art world seriously because your colors will be fugitive. So what do these people smearing toxic paints on there bodies hope to prove. That it can be done? Art is about sharing something beautiful, making a social statement, Providing for yourself and family and others, not injuring your body.
Although the artwork is beautiful, I just don't understand them wanting to use this style of painting. I appreciate the information though. It is always good to learn something new.
I would venture a guess that this method of painting might be more common than one might suspect. I must confess I was surprised at the quality of art in the photos you have for this article. These folks are quite creative and, regardless of their methods, they are very good.
Thanks for sharing information about this most unique sibject.
Mike
This does not appeal to me. I would like to do some conventional artwork.
